This is very important so everyone stays safe:We will leave from TCNJ together in the morning on Saturday in pre-determined car groups. Each car will have a navigation system, a set of written directions, and all of the paperwork of each member of the car group. Each car will stay in contact with one other car in the caravan throughout the entire trip to ensure safety and ease with reporting any problems. The drive will take about 22 hours, and is about 1,300 miles; however, the drive is different for every vehicle depending on the drivers. We STRONGLY ENCOURAGE each car to pay close attention to the speed limit of the state you are in. As long as we follow the laws there shouldn't be any problems!
Please let us know if you are planning on flying instead of driving! The flight is about 3 hours and you will be picked up at the airport upon arrival. |

Lodging
We will be staying at the Project Homecoming Volunteer Village. We will be working with Project Homecoming, a nonprofit organization that manages reconstruction of homes in the greater New Orleans area. The housing provided is single-ed and the set up is large rooms with bed bunks. There are shower and bathroom trailers, a dining room, a living room, and a kitchen area. While staying at the "the village," we will be asked to perform simple chores each day, such as cleaning or cooking, which normally take no more than a half an hour to finish. The facilities are clean and in a great, safe location. The drive to your work site will typically take about 15-20 minutes and the drive to the French Quarter is only 15 minutes!

Worksite AssignmentsEveryone attending the trip will be split up into worksite groups and will be responsible for getting to their worksite in the morning.
In New Orleans, you arrive at your worksite between 9:00 and 9:30am in the morning and work until around 4:30pm in the afternoon. In New Orleans the type of work expected can be anything from installing subfloors to hanging drywall to painting. There are always Project Homecoming Worksite Managers on site to teach and assist everyone how to properly do the work needed. Safety is key! |
